2000 - 2001 SEASON

 Directed by Mark Arthur

Wild Dust

October 3 - 7, 2000

Curtain 8:00 p.m.

Ruppenthal Middle School Auditorium
400 Elm Street - Russell, KS  67665

A ferocious, all-devouring dust storm rages through a small western town in 1880. The lady folks have taken refuge in the only sturdy building in town, a brothel, while the men drive the livestock out of harm's way.

Tensions flow and sparks fly when the town ladies are forced into contact with the madam and her three girls. A tall cowboy stumbles out of the storm and he may or may not be who he says. That's just terrific - since the "ladies" are trying to dispose of a body before anyone discovers it.

The storm pales to the tempest brewing inside. For three days the ladies and the drifter are forced to face each other and their inner ghosts. Feminism meets machoismo, and both are stripped bare as everyone fights the roles in which society has them pegged. Love, esteem, and a healthy dose of laughter are the result. This is the western for our time.

Grace & Glorie

May 1-5, 2001

Curtain 8:00 p.m.

 Ruppenthal Middle School Auditorium
400 Elm Street - Russell, KS  67665

Grace, a feisty 90-year-old cancer patient, has checked herself out of the hospital and returned to her beloved homestead in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.

The volunteer hospice worker who appears to deliver the pain medication is a sophisticated Harvard MBA recently transplanted from New York. Glorie is tense, unhappy and guilt ridden. As she attempts to care for and comfort the cantakerous, rustic Grace, new perspectives on values and on life's highs and lows are gained.

This comedy-drama was perfomed on Broadway by Estella Parsons and Lucie Arnaz. A jillion laughs and a few tears make Grace and Glorie a show that everyone can enjoy. It's funny, tender and an all-round splendid example of good theatre.

The young detective assigned to the case patiently and resourcefully sifts through the ingeniously devised evidence until, in a suprise ending, the truth is finally revealed. This fun murder mystery will make for great dinner theatre.
